Matthew 4:9-11 (NKJV)
"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me." Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.'"
Then the devil left Him, and angels came and attended Him.
Preparing For Battle
As you take steps to find and engage in your mission, don’t be naïve enough to think that you will not face any adverserty . The closer that you come to determining your mission and taking action on it, the more difficulties you will face from the enemy. We know this because the same happened to Jesus as He was preparing for His mission
Not only will the attacks be frequent, but they will be extremely focused. You see, satan knows just how to attack beleivers and we are frequently very easy targets. He places before us the five desires of our flesh; power, pleasure, prosperity, possessions and prestige. Any one of these five can distract us from the communication that we are trying to establish with God.
I encourage you to be on your guard as you make this effort to discover and pursue your purpose. If you can follow Christ’s example and push away the distractions and temptations of this world, saying to satan “Away from me!”, then you can focus on what God desires of your life. Commit to accomplishing this and emulating Christ. You will be well on your way to becoming a woman on a mission from God.
Pray Ask God to open your heart to righteousness and defend you from temptations that seek to distract you from discovering your mission.
ASK YOURSELF
What temptations and distractions keep you from living for God; Power, pleasure, prosperity, possessions or prestige? How do you battle against these distractions? Use Matthew 4:1-11 as a guiding verse as you think about these questions. Think about each of the ways satan tempted Christ and how Christ’s victories can be used as a practical example for your own struggles.
TAKE ACTION
Determine to put into practical use Christ’s examples in your daily battles with distractions and temptations. Keep your mind focused on God during the course of this week and let nothing come between you and God.
